Summary, etc. Öland är ett av Sveriges främsta orkidélandskap. Av de ca 55 arter och underarter som finns i Sverige finns cirka 35 på Öland. Boken berättar om de olika miljöer orkidéer växer i och varför de finns just där. På Öland växer orkidéer i så vitt skilda miljöer som alvarmark, strand­ängar, ädellövskog, tallskog och i många olika typer av kärr. Alla miljöerna har olika förutsättningar och därmed trivs olika orkidéer i olika miljöer. Ölands och Sveriges samtliga orkidéer är fridlysta och många av dem starkt hotade då många populationer gått tillbaka avsevärt. Hoten kan bestå av att livsmiljöer förändras på ett sätt som påverkar orkidéerna negativt, att de grävs upp för att planteras i trädgårdar eller att de plockas. Genom att öka kunskapen om orkidéer hos en bredare publik än bara de redan hängivna, ökar våra möjligheter att bevara dessa fantastiska växter i vår natur och därmed få njuta av dem under lång tid framöver.
