Summary, etc. En man dör i ett stenras på en ödslig öländsk strand. På marken har han hunnit lägga en krans av rosor. När polisen Tilda Davidsson lyfter på kransen hittar hon benrester från en man som sist sågs i livet tillsammans med hennes 86-årige släkting, skepparen Gerlof. Gerlof är sjuklig och kraftlös, men måste ändå ta reda på varför en gammal tragedi ännu skapar rädsla och hat. Hat så starkt att mordet på stranden bara är början.
