Summary, etc. I det gamla men välbevarade 1600-talshuset vid Vita bergen på Södermalm i Stockholm råder stillhet och det har ännu inte blivit mörkt. Men när den ende kvarvarande bofaste tycker sig höra röster i natten, ord från en sedan länge bortglömd profetia, drar sig skuggorna hotfullt närmare. Husägaren hittas död i ett rum i huset, av vad som uppfattas som naturliga orsaker. Men det tycks samtidigt finnas en koppling till ett snart trehundra år gammalt mord. En väl förborgad hemlighet, ett blodsdåd utfört under 1700-talet, uppdagas nämligen i efterlämnade dokument. Åren runt 1740 lönnmördades flera familjer i staden, och deras kroppar återfanns aldrig. Arvtagaren, Mikael, samlas med sina närmaste för att ta hand om arvet. De måste nu städa det hus där den döde påträffades sittande på en pinnstol framför en antik spegel i guldram. Och medan de gör det börjar släktens mörka förflutna ta form.
